1984: Boston University defeated Northern Arizona, 6-5, in front of a small crowd of 1,010 at Walter Brown Arena in the only meeting between the two teams. The Lumberjacks jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 89 seconds into the game on a fluke goal. NAU’s Scott Rupp dumped the puck into the Terrier zone and it bounced off the end boards and deflected off the skate of Terry Taillefer, who did not turn to watch it, into the net. John Cullen scored on the powerplay for BU, but the Lumberjacks lead 2-1 after one period on a goal by Greg Adams that he blasted past Taillefer.
The Terriers tied it game at 2-all at 1:57 of the second when Dave Thiesing took a bouncing shot from the point that was redirected into the net by Paul Gerlitz. BU took the lead 5:22 later when Cullen took a perfect pass from Chuck Sullivan in the corner and wristed it past NAU goalie Kreg Korinek. Northern Arizona tied it at 3-all when Greg Stoike bounced the puck off Taillefer’s skates for another fluke goal. BU retook the lead when Mark Pierog tipped a T.J. Connolly shot from the blueline past Korinek, but Adams scored shorthanded with 71 seconds left in the period to knot it up 4-all after two.
Coach Parker replaced the unlucky Taillefer with Cleon Daskalakis for the third period. The Terriers retook the lead for good when Brad MacGregor put in the rebound of a Chris Mays shot at 6:50 of the period. Kevin Mutch made it 6-4 when he scored on a breakaway with 4:36 left in the game. The Lumberjacks did not go down quietly, however, as they pulled their goalie and scored with 22 seconds remaining to make it 6-5. Korinek made 36 saves for Northern Arizona, while Taillefer made 14 saves and Daskalakis made 10 for Boston University.
2005: Boston University opened a new chapter in the history of the program when they played the first game in the new Harry Agganis Arena, a block away from Walter Brown Arena, their home since 1971. The Terriers made sure the Golden Gophers did not spoil the night, as they won, 2-1
Brad Zancanaro scored the first goal in Agganis Arena history, just one night after scoring the last goal at Walter Brown Arena, at 6:15 of the first period. Zancanaro was set up with a pass from Ryan Monaghan and he responded by putting the Terriers up, 1-0, on a nice rush.
The Gophers tied the game at 8:44 of the second period on a goal by Kris Chucko with assists to Ryan Potulny and Derek Peltier. That set the stage for Peter MacArthur's 10th goal, and first game-winner, of the season. Bryan Miller and Sean Sullivan earned the assists on MacArthur's blistering shot from the slot that handcuffed Minnesota goalie Kellen Briggs. The goal came on the Terrier power play at 16:26 of the second period and closed out the scoring for the night. Terrier goalie John Curry made 22 saves, several of the outstanding variety, while Gopher goalie Briggs made 19 saves.
