1980: Boston University defeated Denver, 5-4, to win the first annual Colonial Bank Invitational held at the New Haven Coliseum in New Haven, CT. Mark Fidler opened the scoring for the Terriers at 1:47 of the first. With BU defenseman Bill Whelton in the penalty box for elbowing Denver evened the score when Magnan put one past terrier goalie Jeff Weisman at 14:05 of the first. Early in the second BU scored two goals 21 seconds apart to take a 3-1 lead. Marc Sinclair scored first at 3:38 and Grant Goegan followed at 3:59. Denver closed the gap to one at 17:39 when Hilliard scored on the powerplay.
In the third period, at 5:43, the Pioneer’s Stensland scored an unassisted shorthanded goal just 21 seconds into a BU powerplay. The Terriers got the goal back at 6:26 when Fidler scored his second goal of the game with BU still on the powerplay. Exactly three minutes later Fidler gave BU its’ second 2 goal lead of the night as he completed a hat trick. Denver closed the lead back to one when Stensland scored his second goal of the game at 13:52. The Pioneers were unable to score the tying goal as Weisman stopped every shot the rest of the way. For the game Weisman made 24 saves, while Robinson made 22.
MVP of the tournament was Boston University’s Grant Goegan.
2007: Boston University defeated Providence, 5-1, at Schneider Arena in Providence for the 1300th win in the program’s history and Coach Parker's 750th career victory. The Terriers scored on 3 of their first 9 shots as they chased Tyler Sims from the net just 3:52 into the second period. Chris Mannix played well in relief, giving up just 1 goal on 11 shots, but John Curry stopped 30-of-31 shots to earn the win for BU.
Matt Gilroy scored first for the Terriers at 15:46 of the first and Jason Lawrence followed that up with a powerplay goal 3:11 later. Kenny Roche scored at 3:52 of the second, on BU’s first shot on net, to drive Sims to the bench. Ninety-eight second later Kevin Schaeffer was called for holding and Providence coach Tim Army pulled Mannix for a 6-on-4 advantage in an attempt to jump-start the Friars. The move backfired as Chris Higgins scored a shorthanded empty net goal 76 seconds later. Zach Cohen scored BU’s fifth goal with 2:29 left in the second period. Curry came within 33 seconds of a shutout, when Colin McDonald got a shorthanded goal past him for Providence's lone goal.
